Ridge is a village in Suffolk County of New York. Ridge has a population of 13,000 people as per the 2010 census and is located on the Northwestern end of the Long Island Pine Barrens Region. Ridge traces its origins back to the 16th century when a settler by the name of William Smith was given permission to buy land on the South Shore of Long Island. At that time, the area that would become Ridge was known as Longswamp and it was until after the American Revolution that the first house was built in the area.
