Families that are looking for a vehicle that has plenty of space, comfort and safety will have the choice of either an SUV or minivan, and the two most popular are the 2022 Dodge Grand Caravan and the 2022 INFINITI QX50. Which of these should you buy?
Design & Style
The INFINITI QX50 is an attractive sport utility vehicle which features a ton of safety and luxury features combined with a state of the art engine and outstanding value for the money. It has five trim levels, which are Autograph, Essential, Pure, Luxe and Sensory, all of which look great. The organic metal used in exterior is free flowing and gorgeous, as is the chrome trim around the grille and window. Inside, the cabin uses a dual screen layout with surfaces that are covered in quilted leather and wood trim. The Dodge Grand Caravan uses a traditional elevated central stack that is combined with a finish that is both straightforward and functional in design. It has tons of space and seats, with plenty of room in the rear for cargo, making it the perfect vehicle for cross country sojourns.
Technology & Safety
The good news is that the Dodge Grand Caravan has received a four star rating from the NHTSA. The bad news is that it is devoid of many modern safety features, with the exception of a rearview camera that is mandated by law. Perks within the cabin include 6.5 inch infotainment screens, Bluetooth, tri-zone climate control, power windows and locks and fold away seats. The INFINITI QX50 has received a five star safety rating, and unlike the Grand Caravan is packed with active safety tech such as pedestrian detection, automatic emergency brakes, the ability to monitor blind spots, cruise and lane control and notifications for cross traffic in the rear. Perks within the cabin include leather seating, seven inch touchscreens, powered seats, and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with Bluetooth.
The INFINITI QX50 is outfitted with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can generate 268 horsepower with 280 pounds of torque. The Dodge Grand Caravan is equipped with a V6, 3.6 liter engine that can generate 283 horsepower.
The Bottom Line
Although the Dodge Grand Caravan seats seven and has greater engine power, it comes at the cost of lackluster safety scores and tech, a dated cabin, and fewer luxury features than the QX50. Given the importance of safety, especially when transporting family members, there can be no shortcuts, and as a consequence the INFINITI is the winner.
