2019 INFINITI QX60 vs. 2019 Ford Flex | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX60 vs. 2019 Ford Flex

The 2019 INFINITI QX60 is a sharp SUV which has received lots of positive attention due to its composed style, its standardized safety features, and its serene riding experience. But how does it compare to the 2019 Ford Flex, a sport utility vehicle with a boxy shape, powerful V6 engine and extremely comfortable and spacious interior?

Design & Style

The Ford Flex is almost completely rectangular, with crisp lines and a port looking grille in front. The outer frame is composed of two boxes, with elegant sheet metal that prevents it from appearing too chunky. The interior is just as angular as the exterior, with impressive surface details. Visually, the INFINITI QX60 is very much the opposite. Where the Ford Flex is boxy, the QX60 is curvy, with extended chrome strips that come together gracefully with a kickback that is crescent shaped. Within the interior, drivers are presented with lots of switches of knobs, all of which are clad in high end materials and simple to learn and use.

Technology & Safety

The INFINITI QX60 has earned a perfect five star safety rating from federal testers. This is due to its incredible array of safety countermeasures, such as protection against rollover, driver assist, blind area monitoring, systems for stability control, warnings when departing lanes and lots of airbags. Comforts within the interior include eight inch touch screens, USB ports, heated/cooled seats, and a sunroof that is dual pane. Unfortunately for the Ford Flex it lacks emergency automatic brakes, which severely compromise its safety score. It does have seat belt style airbags in the second row, which Ford claims will protect passengers better than standard airbags. The trouble is that the shoulder belts that accompany these airbags have been uncomfortable for smaller passengers such as children. Comforts within the Ford Flex include leather seating, Android Auto, eight inch touchscreens and heated/cooled seats.

The Ford Flex has a formidable V6 engine, that is 3.6 liter and capable of generating 287 horsepower, which works in conjunction with an automatic six speed transmission. The INFINITI QX60 also comes with a V6, that is 3.5 liter and capable of generating 295 horsepower. It works in conjunction with a transmission that is continuously variable.

The Bottom Line

While both of these SUVs have their strong points, and are well matched when it comes to interior amenities, the Ford Flex falls short in its safety features, and given the importance of passenger safety and the fact that the Ford Flex’s fuel economy is also lousy; the INFINITI QX60 is the winner.
