2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 GMC Terrain | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 GMC Terrain

The 2019 GMC Terrain is very impressive due to its exterior profile, composed driving experience and Denali luxury trim. How does it compare to the 2019 INFINITI QX50, an SUV that is considered by many to be the best in its class due to its state of the art engine, excellent top trim value, quiet interior, and assortment of safety tech?

Design & Style

The QX50 has a very elegant interior. The dash is stitched and the seats are soothing, with the option to add suede inserts. Externally, it takes design cues from other INFINITI models, but is distinctive due to its sculpted hood, open style grille and crossover form. The GMC Terrain is sleeker than previous editions, with a floating roof, the option to add chrome or black trim, and grille with well-defined lines. The interior is sharp, with polished wood and surfaces that are soft to the touch due to its contrast stitching.

Technology & Safety

The GMC Terrain has excellent crash test scores, with a five-star safety rating. However, this doesn’t include the headlights, which received a poor rating from the IIHS. It has a number of standard features, such as parking sensors, blind area monitoring and a camera for the rearview, with a unique teenage driving feature that gives parents greater control over the driving habits of their adolescents. The QX50 is well equipped to prevent accidents before they occur, with features such as frontal collision notifications, emergency automatic brakes, and surround view cameras. Its most advanced feature is ProPilot Assist, and drivers can also expect perks such as climate control, Bluetooth support and multiple touch screens.

Many drivers have praised the QX50’s drivetrain, and for good reason. It comes with a standard turbo 4, 2 liter engine that gives it 268 horsepower, more than enough power for most. It also uses a CVT (continuously variable transmission) which phased out the 7 speed automatic found in older editions. The newest Terrain comes with turbocharged engines, specifically, a turbo 4, 2 liter that is capable of producing 252 horsepower.

The Bottom Line

Choosing between these SUVs is not easy. Both are visually appealing and similar in performance, price and even interior amenities.  However, upon closer inspection, the GMC Terrain has a number of issues that make it less desirable. For one, it removed the second-row sliding which was present in previous editions, its active safety measures require additional cost for every trim, and its all-wheel drive is only part-time, so the INFINITI QX50 is the winner.
