2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 Dodge Journey | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 Dodge Journey

The 2019 Dodge Journey has received lots of positive attention due to its affordability, infotainment, versatile cabin and ability to seat up to seven passengers. But how does it compare to the 2019 INFINITI QX50, a vehicle which many consider to be the best SUV in its class?

Design & Style

The QX50 has a very roomy interior. The dash is stitched and the seats are soothing to those fortunate enough to sit in them. The surfaces are covered in authentic leather, with the option to add diamond stitching or suede inserts. Externally, the INFINITI has an open grille, hood which is sculpted to perfection and a roof pillar with a distinctive kink. The Dodge Journey has seats in the second row which slide to account for additional cargo or cabin space, which is impressive, but the third row is only adequately sized for children. Externally, the SUV opts for a rectangular body that is well proportioned with a grille that is squared off similar to other Dodge models. Inside, passengers have the option of adding trim with mesh and leather.

Technology & Safety

Unfortunately for the Dodge Journey, its safety rating leaves a lot of to be desired. Although it has standard equipment such as airbags and a camera for the rearview, it is devoid of essential countermeasures such as frontal collision notifications or even emergency automatic brakes. The IIHS gave it poor a rating when it came to protection from frontal collisions, although the NHTSA has given it four stars overall. Interior amenities include touchscreens with 8 inches, satellite radio, leather upholstery and the choice of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The INFINITI QX50 is designed to prevent crashes before they occur, and does an outstanding job in this regard. Unlike the Journey, it comes with frontal collision notifications and emergency automatic brakes on each model, with rearview cameras, lane control, automated parking, and ProPilot Assist. Interior perks include keyless ignition, dual touch screens, Bluetooth support and climate control which is dual zone.

Performance

The QX50 comes with a standard turbo 4, 2 liter engine which produces 268 horsepower. Drivers can upgrade to a V6 which provides 325 horsepower. Each variant comes with a CVT, of continuously variable transmission, which phased out the old seven speeds automatic. The Dodge Journey comes with an inline 4, 2.4 liter engine that can produce 173 horsepower with 166 pounds of torque.

The Bottom Line

Despite both vehicles being within the same general price range, the QX50 surpasses the Dodge Journey in almost every way. It has more safety features and better performance and interior amenities, so the INFINITI wins.
