2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 Chevrolet Trax | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 Chevrolet Trax

The release of the 2019 Chevrolet Trax delighted many SUV enthusiasts, due to its affordability, roomy interior, AWD and great handling. The vehicle has all the makings of an uncrowned king, but to capture the throne it must first overcome the 2019 INFINITI QX50, an SUV which is almost universally regarded as one of the best in the world due to its impeccable design, standard safety gear, cutting edge engine and opulent interior. Can it succeed?

Design & Style

The INFINITI QX50 is a real head turner, the type of vehicle that is driven by those who prefer class and are willing to pay a high price tag for it. The rear seats provide lots of space, and the Bose noise cancellation means that passengers won’t be bothered by outside sounds. The materials used in the interior are all high end, from wood that is open pore to suede and diamond quilting. The Chevrolet Trax is a bit more rugged, though not overly so. The exterior uses a mixture of sharp lines and smooth curves, giving it a balanced and pleasant demeanor. Inside, passengers will be presented with trim that is matte silver and upholstery that is snazzy. Contrast stitching is also available in the Premier variant.

Technology & Safety

The Chevrolet Trax has performed well on federal crash tests, but its safety gear is somewhat limited. For example, it is completely devoid of emergency automatic brakes, a feature that is common in its rivals, including the QX50. It does have frontal impact notifications, along with ten airbags, stability control and a camera for the rear view. Inside, passengers will enjoy seven inch touch screens, Android Auto, air conditioning, and seats that can be adjusted multiple ways. Leather and heated seating is also available on some models. The safety features available in the QX50 are much more extensive. In addition to emergency automatic brakes, it’s a frontal impact warnings, blind area monitoring, parking sensors, cruise control that is adaptive and a suite that is semi-autonomous. Luxuries include keyless ignition, eight in touch screens, Bluetooth support and climate control which is dual zone.

Performance

The INFINITI QX50 is outfitted with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can produce 268 horsepower.  The Chevrolet Trax also has a turbo 4, but it is only capable of producing 138 horsepower, almost half that of the INFINITI.

The Bottom Line

While the designers at Chevrolet put in a good effort, the Trax is too underpowered to compete against the QX50. It lacks many essential safety features, so this combined with the QX50’s Pro Pilot Assist puts it several levels above the Chevy, making the INFINITI the winner.
