2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 Buick Encore | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2019 Buick Encore

The 2019 Buick Encore has gotten a lot of positive attention due to its compact size, refined interior and affordability. But what happens when it goes up against the 2019 INFINITI QX50, an SUV which is coveted for its beauty, standardized safety equipment, and state of the art engine?

Design & Style

The dash within the QX50 is stitched, with inserts made of suede and authentic leather. The seats are extremely comfortable, providing outstanding support for the back and can be cooled or warmed so the skin doesn’t become too hot or cold. Unlike low-end SUVs, the QX50 utilizes noise cancellation, which means neither the driver or the passengers will be disturbed by sounds outside the vehicle. The exterior is gorgeous, with curvature and shine comparable to a champagne bottle. The Buick Encore also provides seats that can be heated. Visually, its external edges are elegant and uncomplicated. The hood is squared off, with a frame that is narrow and elevated compared to other SUVs. Inside, a touchscreen that is eight inches in size is high mounted on the center dash.

Technology & Safety

Although the Buick Encore has been given an overall five-star rating, it lacks emergency automatic brakes. It has excellent rollover protection, however, along with warnings when departing lanes, alerts for cross traffic, frontal impact warnings, and monitoring for blind spots. Inside, passengers will be treated to climate control that is dual-zone, Bluetooth support, a steering wheel wrapped in leather, and a Bose system with seven speakers. The INFINITI QX50 does have emergency automatic brakes, along with a camera for the rearview, frontal impact warnings, automated parking and ProPilot Assist.  Inside, the vehicle is a resort on wheels, with climate control that is dual-zone, Bluetooth support, eight-inch touchscreens, keyless ignition and seats that can be power adjusted.

The QX50 comes with a turbo 4, 2-liter engine that can provide 268 horsepower. It has a sharp throttle which is quite responsive, with a transmission that is continuously variable. The Buick Encore has a turbocharged engine that is 4 cylinder, and capable of generating 138 horsepower. Buyers can also upgrade to an engine that is slightly stronger, with 153 horsepower. Even its strongest engine, however, is no match for the INFINITI.

The Bottom Line

The Buick Encore and INFINITI QX50 are well-matched in appearance and interior amenities. However, the Buick does not offer the same level of cabin space, lacks emergency automatic brakes and another safety tech, and its engine is seriously underpowered, so the QX50 is the winner.
