2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2018 Mazda CX-9 | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX50 vs. 2018 Mazda CX-9

The competition among crossover SUVs has become fierce, especially with the introduction of the 2018 Mazda CX-9. This SUV has received frequent praise for the flexibility of its interior, its cutting edge safety features, and solid infotainment. But how does it compare to the 2019 INFINITI QX50, a SUV which is considered by many the best in its class due to its quiet and elegant interior, powerful engine, and top trim?

Design & Style

Inside the QX50, passengers will be treated to stitched dash and soothing seats. Unlike other vehicles, which use synthetic leather, INFINITI opts for the real thing along with inserts made of suede. In the exterior, the QX50 borrows elements from other INFINITI models, while maintaining its distinction. It has a roof pillar that is kinked, along with an open style grille and hood which is sculpted to perfection. The Mazda CX-9 is also well refined. It uses straight edges in its exterior, with an extended hood and nose that cants frontward slightly. Where the roof pillars of the QX50 are kinked, those of the CX-9 are arched. Within the cabin, the surface is covered in high end materials, with a dashboard that is low set.

Technology & Safety

The Mazda CX-9 has received the coveted “Top Safety” rating from the IIHS. This is due to the addition of a number of countermeasures, such as alerts for cross traffic, automatic braking at low speeds, and its ability to prevent crashes before they happen via its torque vectors system. Other perks include support for Bluetooth, infotainment screens which are seven inches, a sunroof which is dual pane, sensors for parking and seats in the second and first row which are heated.

The INFINITI QX50, like the CX-9, is also designed to avoid crashes. It does so through frontal collision alerts, emergency automatic brakes, and a camera for the rear view. Additional features include monitoring for blind spots, parking sensors, cruise control which is adaptive and lane control which is active. Within the cabin passengers can expect comforts such as eight inch displays, climate control, Bluetooth support, ignition which is keyless, and seats that can be power adjusted.

The QX50 is one of the best performing SUVs in its class. Its drivetrain in particular is highly regarded, as is its turbo 4, 2 liter engine. This engine is variable compression, meaning that it can alter its operation in order to provide additional power or conserve fuel. It produces a standard 268 horsepower. The Mazda CX-9 comes with an inline 4 engine that is turbocharged, 2.5 liter and capable of producing 250 horsepower with 310 pound of torque.

The Bottom Line

In terms of looks and performance, these SUVs are close, almost too close to call. Unfortunately, the CX-9 is mired by cramped space, insufficient touchscreens, subpar powertrains, and few options when compared to the INFINITI, so the QX50 wins.
