The 2020 Subaru Forester is one of the hottest new SUVs on the market. Its outstanding utility, relaxing driving experience, and extensive safety tech make it an excellent family vehicle. But what happens when it goes up against the 2019 INFINITI QX30, an SUV which has continuously dominated the market due to its high-end cabin, agile handling, and all-wheel drive?
Design & Style
The INFINITI QX30 has a curvy outer frame with sharp touches here and there. The LED lights swoop in a manner that gives it a stylish presence, and within the cabin, passengers can expect an infotainment system that is completely integrated within the dashboard. As is always the case with INFINITI vehicles, the surface materials are top of the line, and consist of materials such as nappa leather and natural wood. The Subaru Forester uses a two-box frame that is exceptionally angular, with a large, vertical style grille and headlights which are bird-like. The windows are tall, providing the driver and passengers with lots of outward vision, yet the upholstery in the interior is a bit bland, with a standard cloth that seems low end compared to the QX30.
Technology & Safety
The Subaru Forester has earned picture-perfect scores from the IIHS, being awarded the prestigious Top
Safety Pick. Each of its trim levels comes with standard offerings such as emergency automatic brakes, lane control that is active and cruise control. Those that purchase the Touring edition will have access to facial recognition that will evaluate the driver for drowsiness or other signs they are distracted and will alert them if necessary. A number of amenities are provided to passengers, including keyless ignition, climate control, touch screens that are 6.5 inches and power seats that can be adjusted in ten different ways. The INFINITI QX30 has many of the same safety features as the Forester, along with cameras that have surround view, high beams which are completely automated, the ability to monitor blind spots and lane departure notifications. Perks within the cabin include climate control, touchscreens that are seven inches, and the panoramic sunroof.
The INFINITI QX30 is equipped with a turbo 4, 2-liter engine that is capable of generating 208
horsepower with 258 pounds of torque. The Subaru Forester answers with a flat 4, 2.5-liter engine that can generate 182 horsepower.
The Bottom Line
While the engineers at Subaru put a great deal of effort into the Forester, the INFINITI edges it out across the board. The QX30 has both superior performance and luxury features, making it the clear winner.
