2019 INFINITI QX30 vs. 2019 Dodge Durango | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI QX30 vs. 2019 Dodge Durango

The 2019 INFINITI QX30 has everything drivers want in an SUV; it has style, an upscale interior, all-wheel drive and exceptional handling. However, it faces a strong contender in the 2019 Dodge Durango, an SUV that is rugged yet upscale in its own way. Which should you buy?

Design & Style

Despite being an SUV, the Durango has the look of a muscle truck, borrowing elements from the Dodge Ram. It has a no nonsense design which exudes bravado and in many ways is the polar opposite of the QX30. The Dodge has a crosshair style grille, 18 inch wheels with a hood that is domed and air extractors which are functional. The INFINITI QX30 is all about sleek curves which will turn heads. Where the Durango is rugged, it is refined. The body lines are pronounced with a pillar window in the rear that is swept back. Within the cabin, passengers can expect premium materials, as well as an infotainment system which is completely integrated.

Technology & Safety

INFINITI has always taken safety seriously, equipping the QX30 with headlights that are high beam and automatic, blind area monitoring, notifications when departing lanes, cruise control which is adaptive and a camera with surround view capabilities. Those seated in the cabin will be treated to climate control which is dual zone and automated, keyless ignition, touchscreens with seven inches, and a moon roof which is panoramic.

Unfortunately for the Dodge Durango, it has not done well in crash tests, a result of its age. Although it has an assortment of airbags and head restraints that protect against whiplash, other features such as emergency automatic brakes, lane control and lane departure notifications are placed in a package that costs extra. Within the cabin, it has touchscreens which are eight inches, the choice of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, and nappa leather seats that can be heated or cooled.

The Dodge Durango comes with a V6, 3.6 liter engine that can produce 293 horsepower, with the option to upgrade to a V8 that provides 360 horsepower. The INFINITI QX30 has a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can produce 208 horsepower with 258 pound of torque, with an automatic transmission that is seven speed and dual clutch.

The Bottom Line

Despite being opposites in design, the QX30 and Durango are attractive in their own ways. Despite this, the Durango has a number of things working against it. Aside from its poor crash test results, the V8 edition gobbles up fuel, the driving experience is not as smooth as the INFINITI and overall the Durango is starting to show its age, so the QX30 wins.
