2019 INFINITI Q50 vs. 2019 Hyundai Ioniq | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2019 INFINITI Q50 vs. 2019 Hyundai Ioniq

The 2019 Hyundai Ioniq has caused a lot of excitement among automobile enthusiasts. It comes in multiple options, including electric and hybrid, has controls which are intuitive, and an overall design which is pleasant with some of the best fuel economy in its class. But that being said, how does it stack up against the 2019 INFINITI Q50, a marquee vehicle which has received praise for its performance, roomy interior, powertrain options and active safety features?

Design & Style

Visually, the INFINITI Q50 is a real gem, with an exterior that is punctuated by a hood that is sharply creased and connected to prominent haunches in the back. The bumper has been widened, and those that choose the Luxe or Pure trim will get lots of chrome outside, while those that get Red Sport will receive the menacing yet sophisticated black trim. Stitched dash covers the interior, with quilted leather that looks best in darker colors. The Hyundai Ioniq has exterior lines which sweep elegantly from the front to rear. It is essentially a hatchback, which means that buyers get lots of cargo space, but aside from this, it allows the car to efficiently resist both drag and wind resistance. The interior is rather plain, but all the buttons and controls are organized, with a display that is completely interactive.

Technology & Safety

The IIHS has given the Hyundai Ioniq a Top Safety Pick award, which is one of the highest honors a car manufacturer can receive. This is due to its many devices, such as emergency automatic brakes, ability to avoid collisions, blind area monitoring, lane control and airbags for every passenger. Comforts within the cabin include keyless ignition, Android Auto, seven inch touchscreens, heated seats, LED lights which run during the day and seats that can be power adjusted. The INFINITI Q50 is equipped with frontal impact notifications, the ability to monitor blind spots, lane control that is active, cruise control and emergency automatic brakes. Comforts within its interior include Bluetooth, USB ports, heated seats and navigation.

The INFINITI Q50 comes equipped with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can produce 208 horsepower. The Hyundai Ioniq comes with an inline 4, 1.6 liter engine that produces 104 horsepower with 109 pounds of torque.

The Bottom Line

While both of these cars are attractive and pleasant to drive, the INFINITI is superior. It has double the horsepower and a better looking interior, and aside from that, the Hyundai Ioniq is cramped when it comes to seating space, its range for plugin lags behind many of its competitor, and its cargo space is somewhat hampered by its battery pack, so the Q50 wins.
