2018 INFINITI QX80 VS 2018 FORD EXPEDITION | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

The Ford Expedition was first introduced in the 1990s, and the latest 2018 edition has undergone significant changes. The 2018 INFINITI QX80 is a front engine hatchback with four doors and all-wheel drive. While both vehicles are similar in some ways, they differ in others.

Design & Style

The 2018 Expedition is similar to the F-150 in that it features an aluminum architecture which was designed to reduce its weight. Despite this, it is larger than previous versions, even at the wheelbase. The INFINITI QX80 is imposing in its own right, with a styling that is reminiscent of the Q60. Its headlights were slightly raised, the chrome grille was toned down, and the fascia beneath it was completely revised. The QX80 also features taillights made from LEDs, giving it an edge in style over the more conventional Expedition.

Technology & Safety

Ford has incorporated a number of comfort and safety features in the 2018 Expedition, such as Sync Connect, support for Android and Apple CarPlay, wireless technology, 6 USB ports, four sources for 12-volt power, and a twelve-speaker audio system. It also includes technology for driver assistance and the hulking vehicle is much easier to navigate due to a camera which is 360 degrees along with backup assist and park sensors.

The INFINITI QX80, however, is practically a mansion on wheels. Buyers can add leather which is semi-aniline along with a theater system for the rear seats, a rearview mirror which is digitized and multiple USB ports. It also has a camera concealed within the rear glass that can be moved vertically which can operate even in harsh weather conditions. It has a very impressive Bose stereo system, and pound for pound, the QX80 and 2018 Ford Expedition are evenly matched in the safety and tech department.

The INFINITI QX80 has been outfitted with a V-8 5.6-liter engine, and although the engine is becoming a bit dated, it still has more than enough power. It produces 400 horsepower with 413 pounds of torque and the automatic seven speeds it utilizes are both unobtrusive and simple to use. The QX80 can also hold a maximum of 7 people and can tow a total of 8500 pounds. The brake system is also outstanding.

Ford has updated the engine of the 2018 Expedition from the V-6 3.5 liter that came standard in older models. However, even the latest version lags behind the INFINITI QX80 with only 375 horsepower. It is also restricted to a 6 speed automatic as opposed to the seven-speed the QX80 has. However, the Expedition can hold slightly more people at 8 passengers versus only 7 for the INFINITI.

The Bottom Line

The 2018 Expedition lags behind the INFINITI QX80 in a number of ways, but those who buy it will pay far less. The Ford can be had for about $51,000, while the base price for the QX80 is a whopping $65,000, which is a difference of $14,000. However, for those who have the cash and want the absolute best, the QX80 is the winner.
