2018 INFINITI QX30 vs. 2018 Fiat 500X | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2018 INFINITI QX30 vs. 2018 Fiat 500X

The 2018 INFINITI QX30 is a flagship SUV for INFINITI, showcasing their engineering and design prowess. The vehicle has received acclaim for its assortment of trim levels, handling and its distinct appearance. But the introduction of the 2018 Fiat 500X, with its tidy proportions, handling and utilities has many wondering which of the two is supreme.

Design & Style

The Fiat 500X has a charm which is subtle. Its outline was conceived by Italian designers, and is smooth with reduced drag. It uses a hood which is clamshell style, along with dual headlights. The caps in the rear and front are chunky in a manner which emphasizes the arches of the wheels. The INFINITI QX30 is distinctive for its prominent roofline, and the Sport trim offers a front and back fascia which is more aggressive. Buyers have the option of 18 or 19 inch wheels, and within the interior passengers will be greeted to surfaces which are stitched or padded with a control scheme that is organized well.

Technology & Safety

INFINITI takes the safety of its passengers seriously. The QX30 comes with a minimum of 7 airbags, including those for the knees and side, along with brakes that are antilock and stability control. Other countermeasures include the surround view camera, blind area monitoring, emergency automated brakes and cruise control that is adaptive. Within the cabin, passengers will be comforted by a moon roof which is panoramic, seats which are power adjustable, nappa style leather upholstery and a Bose sound system. The Fiat 500X has been subjected to extensive crash tests via the IIHS, and has performed well. Like the QX30, it offers many cutting edge safety features. These include emergency automatic brakes, headlights with high beams, wipers that sense rain, blind zone monitoring, and alerts for frontal collisions. Within the cabin it also provides a moon roof, audio system by Beats, climate control and seats and steering wheel which can be heated during cold weather.

Those who have tested the Fiat 500X love its manual gearbox. The powertrains have also been packaged with care. The 500X comes with a standard turbo 4 engine that can produce 160 horsepower, but can be upgraded to an inline 4 which is capable of producing 180 horsepower. The INFINITI QX30 comes with an inline 4, turbocharged engine that can produce 208 horsepower with 258 pound of torque.

The Bottom Line

Both the INFINITI QX30 and Fiat 500X are respectable SUVs which offer a lot to those that drive them. Unfortunately, the Fiat falls behind substantially when it comes to performance and engine power, its transmission is considered overly touchy, and the decision to add a sunroof hampered headroom so the QX30 wins.
