2018 INFINITI Q70 VS. 2018 LEXUS GS | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

The INFINITI 2018 Q70 is an outstanding car which unlike many of its contemporaries offers a great balance between price, luxury and performance. However, the Lexus 2018 GS is a formidable adversary, edging out many of its German rivals, but is not without its flaws. So which car is the better buy?

Design & Style

Both cars have a very sleek, smooth exterior which will enhance the profile of anyone that is seen in them. The curves of the INFINITI Q70, both inside and out, are fabulous, as is the extensive and easy to use infotainment system. The Lexus has an interior that was built for comfort, with front seats that are exceptionally supportive. Overall, it can be said that it is a draw when it comes to style and design since both vehicles have the right formula.

Technology & Safety

The fuel economy of the INFINITI Q70 leaves a lot to be desired, at only 18 mpg versus 22 mpg for the Lexus GS. Both cars are tied when it comes to total seating capacity, providing room for a maximum of five passengers. However, with the Q70 you will get more shoulder and front leg room, with a higher passenger volume overall. Each vehicle utilizes rack pinion steering and the INFINITI has passed multiple safety tests with flying colors, while results for the Lexus GS are pending.

There is where things get interesting. Pound for pound, the INFINITI Q70 completely surpasses the Lexus in terms of performance, handling and raw power. Its engine produces 330 horsepower at 7000 rpm, while the Lexus GS is limited to 241 horsepower at 5800 rpm. This difference between the two is due to the type of engines they employ; while the Q70 is powered by the aging but a very potent V-6 premium unleaded engine, the Lexus is powered by a premium unleaded I-4 intercooled turbo engine. The Q70 also has higher torque than the GS at 270 with 5200 rpm versus only 258 at 1650 rpm. Both cars incorporate an automatic transmission with a drivetrain that is rear wheel.

The Bottom Line

Although the 2018 Lexus GS and INFINITI Q70 are similar in terms of the interior amenities they provide, many drivers are not impressed with the mileage of the GS, nor are they thrilled with its responsiveness. While the Q70’s powertrains can sometimes be a nuisance, it still performs at a much higher level than the GS, which explains its slightly higher price tag of $50,000 versus only $46,000 for the Lexus. Those that want maximum performance and handling should, therefore, choose the INFINITI.
