2018 INFINITI Q50 VS. 2018 NISSAN Z | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

The 2018 Nissan Z offers speed and acceleration, an outstanding manual transmission, and an excellent ratio of weight to power. But how does it compare to the highly respected 2018 INFINITI Q50, a car which many regard as being one of the finest in its class due to its powerful engine, interior and handling?

Design & Style

The Q50 is a luxurious sedan which is extremely well equipped. Slight changes have been made to the interior, primarily in the back and front fascias. New wheels have also been added which are either eighteen or nineteen inches in size. Most of the changes in this year’s model have occurred in the interior. The spokes of the steering wheel are thinner when compared to previous editions, and a dual-screen infotainment unit occupies the center. The Nissan Z is designed to be sporty and has the iconic shape seen in previous models. The Z looks best in yellow, and within the cabin, the material has been substantially upgraded from previous editions.

Technology & Safety

Although the Nissan Z comes with four airbags, seat belt pretensioners, and other safety features, it lacks both a rearview camera and the feature of monitoring for blind spots, which is a big strike against it. Although its safety tech is yesteryear, its interior amenities are respectable, with features such as noise cancellation, seats that can be cooled or heated, 7-inch touchscreens, and a Bose audio system.

The INFINITI Q50 has an array of state of the art safety and comfort tech. Aside from blind spot monitoring and a rearview camera, which the Nissan Z lacks, the Q50 also has adaptive steering, automatic emergency brakes, adaptive cruise control, and warnings when departing lanes. Inside, passengers can expect multi-zone climate control, seven-inch touchscreens, Bluetooth support, adjustable seats, and satellite radio with an audio system comprising six speakers.

The INFINITI Q50 offers spectacular performance, especially for a sedan. Standard models come with a 2-liter engine that can produce 208 horsepower with 258 pounds of torque, but if one chooses the Red Sport they get a whopping 400 horsepower with 350 pounds of torque. The Nissan Z comes with a standard V6, 3.7-liter engine that can produce 332 horsepower. As seen, the Nissan Z is no match for the Red Sports edition of the INFINITI Q50.

The Bottom Line

Although the Nissan Z is built for acceleration and speed, it comes at a tremendous cost. First, it only holds a maximum of two people. Second, it doesn’t offer much room for cargo. Third, and most serious, it is lacking in many of the safety features which come standard in the Q50, which is unacceptable – given the speeds it is designed to operate at. It is, therefore, a better choice to opt for the Q50.
