2018 INFINITI Q50 vs. 2018 Nissan Altima | Competition INFINITI of Smithtown

2018 INFINITI Q50 vs. 2018 Nissan Altima

The 2018 Nissan Altima offers a plush ride which is ideal for families, with lots of standardized safety features and an attractive appearance. The 2018 INFINITI Q50 has received praise for the quality of its hybrid, and has an updated interior with the option to upgrade to a more powerful engine. Which of the two cars should you buy?

Design & Style

The newest Nissan Altima is constructed from attractive sheet metal, with a cabin that is a bit restrained when compared to the Q50. The fenders in the front have been updated, along with the hood that has been reshaped. The grille has been widened, the bumper in the front has been lowered, and the taillights have been reshaped. Mild changes have also been made to the latest edition of the Q50. This includes chrome accents with a light aerodynamic touch for the fascia. It has wheels which are 19 inches, fog light surrounds, and headlights which give it a predatory appearance.

Technology & Safety

The safety features found in the INFINITI Q50 are extremely advanced. It has adaptive cruise control, warnings for lane departures, monitoring for blind spots, and warnings regarding forward collisions. It has seats which can be adjusted eight ways, automatic emergency brakes, eight inch infotainment touch screens, connectivity for Bluetooth and climate control which is dual zone.

Throw in an audio system with six speakers and satellite radio and drivers will always be connected. The Nissan Altima has done well on its crash tests, and although its safety devices are more standard when compared to the Q50, it is considered one of the safest sedans on the market today. In addition to emergency automatic brakes, it also has warnings for forward collisions and a camera in the rear view. Adaptive cruise control is also available, but only on certain models. It also has keyless entry, support for Bluetooth and touchscreens which are five inches.

The Nissan Altima comes equipped with a standard 4 cylinder 2.5 liter engine. It is highly fuel efficient, and can produce a maximum of 179 horsepower. A V6 variant is available however, which is 3.5 liter and can produce up to 270 horsepower. The INFINITI Q50 comes with a standard 2 liter engine that can produce 208 horsepower with 258 pound of torque, and if one chooses the Red Sport edition they get a whopping 400 horsepower with 350 pound of torque.

The Bottom Line

The Nissan Altima has a lower price tag than the INFINITI Q50, but this is largely because it offers less. While a solid automobile for those on a budget, it lacks the panache of the INFINITI, which has greater performance, safety features and a more luxurious interior, so the Q50 wins.
