If you are in the market for an SUV, then you are probably spoilt for choice. Two major contenders are the 2017 INFINITI QX50 and the 2016 Mazda CX-5. COMPETITION INFINITI has put together this comparison guide, which shows why the QX50 has an edge over the CX-5.
Design & Style
The INFINITI is a sleek looking SUV, with a sexy looking front end, full of catchy angles and lines, while the sloping low roof gives it an almost coupe look. Inside the cabin, there is leather upholstery, while the driver’s seat is eight-way power adjusted (passenger’s is four-way) and both are heated. Dual-zone automatic temperature control will maintain the climate within the QX50, while an 11-speaker Bose audio system will entertain your passengers. INFINITI’s navigation system has a 7.0-inch touchscreen display with lane guidance and 3-D building graphics. This INFINITI model is built for comfort as you zip around the city.
The Mazda CX-5 is a robust model, that is not particularly eye-catching. Inside the cabin of Grand Touring models, there are leather seats that are heated for front and rear passengers, there are a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, and two USB chargers. An upgrade will get you an improved touchscreen, a Bose 10-speaker sound system and rear USB ports.
Technology & Safety
Both of these SUVs are fitted with the standard array of safety features, which include an array of airbags for driver and passenger protection. The Mazda has low-speed automatic emergency braking, while full-speed automatic emergency braking is an option. The QX50 has a rearview monitor, electronic brake force distribution, traction control system, vehicle dynamic control and brake assist. Blind spot warning, forward collision warning, intelligent brake assist and lane departure warning are available as an upgrade.
Performance
The Mazda has two engines to choose from, which include a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine, pulling 87 hp with 185 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine. Both are driven by six-speed automatic transmission with front wheel drive action. However, the Mazda engine is no match for the QX50, which has a hefty 3.7-liter V6 engine that pulls 325 hp with 267 lb-ft of torque. This is driven by seven-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive.
The Bottom Line
It is easy to see why the INFINITI QX50 is the better car, as it just outperforms the Mazda in every category. When purchasing a car, you should always keep in mind the comfort of the ride and the safety of the vehicle, and here the QX50 excels. If you are looking for a good all-round SUV, then it is clear that the INFINITI QX50 is the model of choice.
